Choked

When I "purchased Windowblinds" awhile back I was under the impression I had "indefinite downloads(with windowblinds)now I'm not allowed to download anymore because I'm a past customer? Why renege? Is this the right approach to keep customers? I am left to wonder what has happened to this place I used to call home?

I know that T-man recntly reset the DL counts for past customers. I believe past customers are supposed to have a 500MB DL cap, as opposed to the 50MB cap for non-customers/subscribers.
If you haven't hit 500MB and you're still getting an error message (your link didn't work for me) try emailing sales or an admin to get it straightened out.
WC is still one of the friendliest places on the net.

tjesterb, I have been here for awhile now and when I purchased windowblind I was under the impression I had indefinite downloads......to me this seems a renege on either Wincustomize or Stardocks' part, I'm still not sure which? The old saying goes "once they have your money......they can change the rules! That's why I'm "choked"

BTW, I have had computer problems in the past and had to redo everything but I guess every download counts, no matter what! This was never an issue before......until now! You sell a product and you claim it is indefinite......you keep it that way at the time you sell the product! New customers are told keep purchasing every year and you can enjoy our product......I was not... I repeat, not told that when I bought Windowblinds!

I think they had to revise the unlimited DLs to try to defray the cost of running the site. The 500MB for former customers was (I think) a sort of compromise.
I purchased a WC subscription in addition to renewing my OD subscription. To me it's worth it. $20 for a years worth of unlimited DLs is a pretty fair deal. Last I looked I had a little over 1GB of DLs from here. (Last time I backed up my PC before re-installing Windows, my Program files alone was almost 16GB)

I understand why you are defending this site.....it is a great place, but a promise is a promise, no matter what! Do you understand what I mean? Wincustomize changed the whole look of this place and now it cost them more money..........now it will cost ME more money! Whatever......

carolelee, I don't know Stardock's exact policy on this, but maybe you should send them an email and give it until Monday when they get back to work. The "a promise is a promise, no matter what!" thing sounds quite dramatic, but I don't recall reading anywhere that buying WindowBlinds got you unlimited downloads forever. You've downloaded over 2 GB, by the way.

By the way Mike, as I said before I had previous problems with my computer, hence the downloads......get it? Please read carefully before you make your comments!Oh....by the way, I did pay for those GB's

Carolelee,

I know what you mean about pc problems and re-downloading everything.... I've had to do it twice!

As far as the download caps.... I have no clue.

Although, 'all' the admins may not be here on weekends there are always admins monitoring the boards.... give it a while and one of them is bound to show up.

Another thing, when I purchased windowblinds at the time.....that was my very first used computer and it died, then I bought another used one and it died too! The one I have now is brand new......so please don't judge buy the amount of giga bites I have downloaded.......bought and paid for. Enough said!!!
on Mar 12, 2005
Aarielle......It's a nightmare, I just wish people wouldn't judge when they don't know the reason......you know what I mean?

Carolelee,
Im sure it's frustrating (nag screens just are!) and I know that Stardock & Wincustomize policies can seem a bit vague (ok, for some of us this is an understatement!..LoL)

The only thing I would ask is, do you not feel that $20 for an entire year of membership and unlimited downloading is not worth it?
These artists, some of them, maybe most have spent hundreds of dollars upon programs to create the Skins/Themes..etc..etc.. that they upload to WC for people like you and I to download and enjoy, pretty much "free of charge"
Plus taking into consideration the amount of work that goes into each graffic that they create..
$20 not only helps WC provide the site for us to visit and access these WB's,Logons,Wallpapers..etc..etc. But it shows your support for your favorite artists as well..

I apologize if you take this addition to your thread as harsh, it is not meant to be. I just wanted to offer perhaps a point of view that you had not considered.

Take Care,
& Good Luck!
Zero.

I'm on NO SIDE here, but I see what carolee means. She's not irked because she needs to spend more on these skins. She's irritated because her, like I was told "unlimited downloads" when we made that purchase. [I purchased mine during the subscription drive some x-mas ago] We ALL feel these skins are worth it - she's just miffed because the conditions seemed to have changed; without warning.

...and perhaps it is poor wording. It maybe should read "unlimited number of downloads for the subscription period". In other words, no number limit within the subscription time limit.
on Mar 12, 2005
PS: I don't think she's trying to dispute the worth of these things: She seems to be mad that they conditions changed. Maybe the subscription should have been 50 dollars? Who knows; but if Stardock DID in fact implement a cap without warning then it IS a smidgen unfair to impose this restriction after she's paid for it.

Ahhh, this is my point though, you say unlimited.....that is what Stardock said when I purchased windowblinds........why is everyone missing my point?
